Tasting notes: Aged for 10 months in French oak, with a blend of 55% Marselan, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 9% Cabernet Franc, this award-winning wine displays a beautiful ruby colour. The wine has a fragrant bouquet with aromas of red berries, violet and plum, with a soft dedicate palate and delightful long finish.
Pairing: This wine displays refined and smooth tannins with light body and lively acidity, pairs well with duck, pigeon, spicy chicken and pork.
Feature: Marselan is considered as a potential signature red grape for China, adding spiciness and colour to blends. Cabernet Sauvignon / Grenache cross created in 1961 to give a disease resistant variety with good colour and flavour, traditionally grown in Languedoc region in France.
About the Winery: Rongzi winery is in the Shanxi region in central northern China. Vines are grown at high altitude - 1000m on a loess rich plateau. The winemaking here is overseen by Jean-Claude Berrouet, previously winemaker at Château Pétrus.
